Decoration Day

A Bit Of History: The tradition began after the Civil war in 1868. Communities gathered to decorate the graves to remember and honor fallen soldiers' in a widespread observance.

Decoration day was declared a federal holiday in 1971 and has since evolved to commemorate not only Civil War soldiers, but fallen American military personnel throughout Wars on Terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Without the sacrifice of our fellow brothers and sisters in arms, those men and women in uniform, WE could not continue to stand in our freedom and democracy.

While life circumstances may alter our perception of "how things are" or "should be" when it comes to our personal political views we should not let that reflect our appreciation for those who have stood and continue to stand proudly, so that WE can continue to say "America persists and we stand united."
